How it works

Shot Director

Turn a finished script into a production shot list: every shot with its size, angle, lens, lighting, sound and length, planned the way a director and a script supervisor would plan it.

Open Shot Director

Step by step

  1. 1

    Paste your script

Choose the genre and, if you like, the tone, the image style and the aspect ratio.

  2. 2

    The scene is mapped

Shot Director breaks the script into beats and maps every location: where people stand, the windows and lamps, and which side the key light comes from.

  3. 3

    Every shot is planned

Size, angle, lens, camera move, composition, lighting, sound, length, and the transition into the next shot. Each shot is long enough for its lines, at about 2.2 words a second, plus time for the action after a line.

  4. 4

    The continuity check

The shot list is checked against the rulebook: coverage, the 180° line, the handoff between shots, cut motives, camera grammar and timing. Each note names its rule, such as CONT-03.

  5. 5

    Fix it

Press Ask Shot Director to fix these. The revision is kept only if it has fewer notes. It is free and doesn’t use a daily shot list.

  6. 6

    Use it

Download it as a CSV, copy the image prompts, or send the shots to StoryFlow to storyboard, animate and edit them into a film.

The film craft inside

Shot Director works from a rulebook of 110 numbered rules for coverage, continuity and blocking, cutting, shot design, camera movement and rhythm, sound, and first and last shots, plus style sheets for 7 genres with each genre’s light, lens, composition and shot lengths. Most of the rules are in the Film Knowledge Library; the ones for consistent AI video stay in-house.

What it costs

  • 1 free shot list a day. The allowance resets at midnight UTC.
  • Fixing the continuity notes is free.
  • No daily limit when you add your own fal.ai key (Account → API keys).

Questions

Why does a shot list need a continuity check?+

Most edits that feel wrong break a simple rule: a character jumps sides of the frame, a prop changes hands, a cut has no reason. Checking the plan catches it before anything is drawn or filmed.

What do the rule numbers mean?+

Each note names the rule it comes from. COV is coverage, CONT continuity, CUT cutting, CAM camera and rhythm, SND sound. You can read most of them in the Film Knowledge Library.

Can I use the shot list on a real shoot?+

Yes. It has the fields of a professional shot list, and the CSV opens in any spreadsheet.
